How the Marching Band Parade came into existence?
Nothing gains the attention or stirs the emotions more than a pipe band on the march. The mission of the Kings Bagpiper band Drums is to share this love of music with others, either through performances or by bringing someone into our band. The band is comprised of members who all live within two hours of place, where we meet to practice. We have played at highland games throughout India, competed at the Piping Championships, and we have had the honor of representing the great state of Rajasthan in any inauguration. Various associations were formed at the onset of World War I by the governor for homeland defense during wartime. After the war the force was maintained and used in various disaster relief efforts. Over thirty years ago a few members of the Indian Army Military State Defense retired personnel formed a pipe band. From those small beginnings budded a seed most precious? Having the foundation laid by those early pioneers, our band has flourished and has grown and been built upon by each succeeding generation.
The Kings Bagpiper band Drums pipers and drummers today’ continue to honor its proud heritage. We honor our proud men and women of the armed forces, past and present, by playing for veteran’s groups and at ceremonies by and for active duty military personnel.
Our membership is as diverse as the great state we represent. School teachers, waiters, truck drivers, police officers, clerks, firemen and students, among others make up the membership.
The music performed by pipe bands transcends all cultural, social and economic barriers. Our youngest pipers and drummers are getting their starts at nine and ten years of age. Our youth program nurtures and produces champion pipers and drummers who have competed and won honors throughout the Pacific Northwest. It’s never too late to start however. Several of our members didn’t start piping or drumming until later in life. Their life experiences serve to strengthen the band.
